Welcome back to Warren Hills Regional High School for the District 1 finals.
Nice ceremony beforehand as former state champions Dave Brandt of Belvidere and Rick Thompson of Phillipsburg were recognized, along with West Morris' Greg Cholish on the 40th anniversary of their district and state championships. Bob Detrick, who won a district title 71 years ago for Washington High School, also was in attendance. His son Dave, was a three-time champ for the Streaks, along with Dave's sons, Daryl and Doug.

2-Fisher bottom. Nauta turns Fisher with a cradle and nearly gets the pin, he leads 3-2. Another two-point nearfall --why would Fisher take bottom? Legs and turn -- AND THE FALL! You really have to question that decision to go down against a wrestler whose MAJOR strength is top.

2-Ritchie on bottom, Fleming lets him up. Ritchie takedown, Fleming big birds and gets two reversal and two backs -- he leads 9-7. Good one here! Now the official is saying no backs so we're tied at 7.
3-Fleming escapes, gets a takedown and another escape for Ritchie -- 10-8. Fleming winning the battle on their feet. Fleming spins behind for another takedown with 30 seconds left. That should do it.

3-Friedman on bottom. Escape, 6-4, 50 seconds left. This is anyone's match. Johnson hangs on, literally to Friedman's right leg as the buzzer sounds. First title for the Stateliner.

1-Matthews going for his third title. Elling was second last year. Elling banged for stalling later in the period and Matthews gets the takedown at the edge with 5 seconds left for a 2-0 lead.
2-Elling takes bottom. Escape early, 2-1. Matthews in again on a single leg, but has to come through the back door for his second takedown and a 4-1 lead. Escape for Elling, 4-2. P'burg has wrapped up the team title and Elling chin whips for the stunning FALL in 3:50!
That's not knowing your opponent, that's Elling's bread and butter move.

1-Thorsen going for his first title, puts Kozimor on his back early -- 5-0. Those early holes are tough to dig out of. Kozimor trying to become a three-time champ after finishing second a year ago. His brother, Corey Kozimor, is the school's only four-time winner. Other Tigers to win three are Dave Palmer (1961-63), Doug Blake (1966-68), Cory Vernon (2005-07) and Taylor Ulm (2006-08). Reversal makes it, 5-2.
2-Thorsen stacks Kozimor, reversal and he leads 7-2. Escape for Kozimor with 20 seconds left, 7-3.
3-Kozimor on bottom. Reversal with 32 seconds left, makes it 7-5. Thorsen was laying face down the final 15 seconds and was hit twice for a stall point, but it doesn't matter. He joins brother Dylan as a district champ.

1-Schuitema early takedown. He's a big favorite here and next week at Wallkill Valley. Schuitema almost gets a few turns with legs in, no surprise, he's tough on top.
2-Schuitema on bottom. Reversal, he leads, 4-0. Last two times they met, Schuitema won 7-0 and by pin. Three-point nearfall stretches the lead to 7-0, and two more backs make it 9-0, Using those legs and Butka is not defending at all.
3-Butka wisely takes top. Schuitema reversal to a low-leg cradle but zero backs ... unreal. Referee is Bob DeFalco for those scoring at home. It's 11-0. Reversal for Butka with 30 seconds left, 11-2.

Wrestling: District 1 quarterfinals (LIVE)
Welcome to the District 1 Tournament as we will be updating you on all of tonight's action from the quarterfinal round that will begin at 5:30. Winners will be guaranteed at least a fourth-place finish.
Warren Hills Regional High School is this year's host, as Phillipsburg will take its turn again in 2014. Mount Olive, which did a fine job of hosting a year ago, will have it again in 2015. Warren Hills has hosted a total of five times since 1996. Previously, the tournament was housed solely at Phillipsburg.
There are eight former champions in this year's field -- including two from 2011. Tyler Kozimor of Hackettstown (2010-11) and Nick Matthews of West Morris (2011-12) are attempting to become three-time champions.
The 2012 winners returning are: Phillipsburg's Zach Fisher, Steve Friedman and Andrew Kaluzny; Warren Hills' Joe Kratochvil and Belvidere's Evan Bray. North Warren's Matt Ritchie won a title in 2011.
Note: Two changes -- at 170, Hackettstown's Rafael Garcia is now the No. 7 seed and West Morris' Adam Kratch receives a bye. At 285, North Warren's Chris Longyhore is a scratch and Hackettstown's Miguel Garcia is the No. 7 seed. Belvidere's Ryan Appleby receives a bye.

Notes: Burke finished third last year and helped snap Sparta's long drought on Friday nights, as the Spartans won one district bout from 2009-11. McHugh is a tough senior, but has lost twice to Burke and will meet him for a third time in the semis. Scrivani, who beat McHugh, 7-6, will have work to do with Newton's Michael Larsen in the same half of the draw.

Lodema-Auer in the semifinals should be a good one. Lodema has been third (2012) and fourth twice in this district, while this is Auer's first tournament appearance.

The road could get bumpy starting here as Sibblies is hungry after losing most of the last two seasons with knee injuries. Reiman decked No. 3 seed Ryan May of Sparta in a dual meet.

Wrestling: NJSIAA District 17 seeds, pairings
Pairings and seeds for the District 17 Tournament to be held on Saturday at Hunterdon Central's Field House.
Action begins at 10 a.m., with the preliminaries and quarterfinals. Semifinals to follow at noon with third-place consolations at 1:30 p.m., and finals at approximately 3:30 p.m.
There are seven returning champions in this year's field:
North Hunterdon's Matt Moncourtois and Liam Korbul, Lawrence's Gordon Wolf, Delaware Valley's Matt Gilmore, Hunterdon Central's Gary Dinmore, Voorhees' Jadaen Bernstein and Hopewell Valley's Mike Markulec.
Bernstein, who is the Vikings' all-time wins leader, is going for his third straight title after winning back-to-back crowns at 160 pounds. He was third as a freshman. Only 10 Voorhees wrestlers have won three or more titles, including head coach Eric Hall, who won four (1993-96). The last at the Hunterdon County school to win at least three was Mike Hafke (2007-10), one of 11 from the county to win four.
Pongracz and Dinmore are also gunning for their third district titles.
Pongracz is looking to join seven others at Del Val to win three or more -- including four-timers Kris Sigafoos (2004-07) and Nick LaFevre (2005-08), and three-timers Jeff Segreaves (1973-75), Jamie Wicks (1986-88), Brent Conly (1991-93), C.J. Inglin (2004-06), Dan Kelly (2005-07).

There are seven returning champions in this year's field:
North Hunterdon's Matt Moncourtois and Liam Korbul, Lawrence's Gordon Wolf, Delaware Valley's Matt Gilmore, Hunterdon Central's Gary Dinmore, Voorhees' Jadaen Bernstein and Hopewell Valley's Mike Markulec.
Bernstein, who is the Vikings' all-time wins leader, is going for his third straight title after winning back-to-back crowns at 160 pounds. He was third as a freshman. Only 10 Voorhees wrestlers have won three or more titles, including head coach Eric Hall, who won four (1993-96). The last at the Hunterdon County school to win at least three was Mike Hafke (2007-10), one of 11 from the county to win four.
Pongracz and Dinmore are also gunning for their third district titles.
Pongracz is looking to join seven others at Del Val to win three or more -- including four-timers Kris Sigafoos (2004-07) and Nick LaFevre (2005-08), and three-timers Jeff Segreaves (1973-75), Jamie Wicks (1986-88), Brent Conly (1991-93), C.J. Inglin (2004-06), Dan Kelly (2005-07).

Wrestling: NJSIAA District 3 seeds, pairings
Pairings and seeds for the NJSIAA District 3 Tournament to be held Friday and Saturday at Kittatinny Regional High School in Hampton.
Wrestling begins at 5:30 p.m., on Friday with the quarterfinals. Action continues at 9 a.m., on Saturday with the semifinals, followed by third-place consolations at 10:30 a.m. (two mats) and the championship finals to follow around noon. The top three finishers at each weight class advance to the Region 1 Tournament at Wallkill Valley.
