The sectional classifications for the 2015-16 scholastic wrestling season were posted on the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association web site on Friday.
A few notable changes involved North Hunterdon dropping to North 2, Group 4 after winning the North 2, Group 5 title this past season, while Warren Hills moves to North 1, Group 4 for the first time in program history after competing almost exclusively in North 2, Group 3.
Last season, all four teams in Hunterdon County won sectional titles in the same year for the first time in tournament history. Along with North Hunterdon, Hunterdon Central (Central Group 5), Voorhees (North 2, Group 3) and Delaware Valley (Central Group 2) all advanced to the Group championships.
Interestingly, Newton and Kittatinny swap sectional assignments with the Braves going to North 1, Group 2 and the Cougars dropping back to North 1, Group 1. The Sussex County shuffle moves Kittatinny out of the same section as archrival High Point, which posted a 32-31 victory when the teams met in the North 1, Group 2 quarterfinals last season -- the first postseason meeting in the series.
Longtime Kittatinny coach John Gill, whose team suffered its earliest sectional exit since 1999 and had been to 15 straight sectional finals, has gone on record saying he did not want to continue the popular regular-season match against High Point if the teams are in the same section. The 'Cats have won nine of the last 10 meetings and hold a 27-12-1 edge in the series dating to 1976.
