Steve Friedman of Phillipsburg and Andrew Pacheco of Warren Hills were among five winners for the New Jersey squad in a 28-18 loss to Pennsylvania in the 35th annual Easton Lions Club All-Star Wrestling Classic on Monday night at Easton Area High School's 25th Street Gymnasium.
New Jersey, which has now lost the last three events, had won three straight and four of the five classics prior to a 32-15 setback in 2013. Pennsylvania, which won, 36-6, in 2014, leads the overall series, 20-15, dating to 1981.
Friedman, a District 1 champion and Region 1 runner-up, earned a 5-3 decision over Freedom's Adam Evans at 145 pounds, while Phillipsburg teammate and state qualifier Max Elling closed out the match with a 10-0 major of Bangor's Charlie Sell.
Pacheco, a three-time district and two-time region champion for the Blue Streaks, decked Liberty's Kyle Gildner in 1:09. Max Nauta of Warren Hills dropped a 2-0 decision to Northampton's Todd Hetrick at 132.
North Hunterdon's Lucas Approvato (120) and Hunterdon Central's Nestor Crespo (190) both won by decisions for the New Jersey stars.
In the featured bout at 195, Parkland's Omar Haddad, who placed third in the PIAA Class AAA Tournament, scored a 2-1 win over New Jersey state champ Tyree Sutton of Keansburg.
Pius X's Mike Comunale earned the Outstanding Wrestler Award with a 5-2 win over New Jersey state placewinner William Povalac of Edison at 152.
