The seventh annual Hunterdon-Warren-Sussex tournament gets under way on Saturday with six preliminary round games.
Here's is this year's complete schedule:
Prelims on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the higher seeds, with the winners advancing to the four pre-quarterfinal round contests on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the higher seeds. The quarterfinals are slated for Saturday, Oct. 10 at the higher seeds with the semifinals to be played on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The championship game will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 on the turf at Hackettstown's Morrison Field. Warren Hills posted a 5-0 win over Voorhees in last year's title game, the Warren County school's fourth HWS championship and second in a row.
In a new twist this season, all schools were seeded strictly on power points and housed in one 18-team bracket. Power points through a team's first six games, or if fewer than six, played up to and including Wednesday's cutoff were used in seeding process. In two head-to-head cases, teams jumped only the school directly above or below.
Warren Hills and Voorhees, originally the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds, traded spots based on the Vikings' 2-1 win on Sept. 15. In addition, Phillipsburg jumped over Delaware Valley for the No. 11 seed due to the Stateliners' 6-0 victory on Sept. 8.
The top four seeds receive byes into the quarterfinals.

How is Newton number one
ReplyDeleteYeah, this is insane. Being a slave to power points after only 5 games punishes teams with tough schedules. And now the WH/Voorhees rematch will be on that field of theirs.
