Wrestling: Kocsis wins for Jersey in Lions Classic

State medal winner Jake Kocsis of Phillipsburg won his final high school bout -- one of just two victories for the New Jersey squad in a 36-6 loss to Pennsylvania in the 34th annual Easton Lions Club All-Star Classic on Friday night at Easton Area High School's 25th Street Gym.

Pennsylvania won nine of 11 bouts and now leads the all-time series, 19-15, dating to 1981. New Jersey, which earned a 28-15 win in 2012, had won three straight and four of five classics before a 32-15 loss in last year's event.

Easton's Kyle Baker was named the Outstanding Wrestler -- decking Voorhees' Mike Muscatello in 4:50.

Kocsis, who finished fourth in the New Jersey State Tournament at 170 pounds, earned a 3-1 decision in overtime against Northampton's Bobby Fehr in the final bout at 173.

The only other winner for New Jersey was Bound Brook's Stephen Johnson -- 3-2 in the ultimate tiebreaker over Pen Argyl's Brady Mutton at 285.

In addition to Muscatello, Voorhees' Cody Ihling (120) and Jordan Juliano (170) lost decisions, while North Warren's Matt Ritchie dropped a 6-0 decision to Northampton's Zach Valley, a PIAA Class AAA state runner-up. North Hunterdon's Joe Guzzo was decked by Liberty's Noah Klingborg.

Pennsylvania also won the youth match, 28-11, that preceded the high school event.
