Baseball: Blue Streaks bounce back against Terriers

Sophomore outfielder Matthew Cummings went 2-for-4 with a triple and junior catcher Christian Stagaard had a pair of hits to lead Warren Hills in a 5-3 win over Delaware Valley in a Skyland Conference Raritan Division clash on Thursday at Baka Field in Alexandria Township.

Warren Hills (4-2, 3-1 division), which snapped a two-game skid, including an 8-4 division loss to Ridge on Tuesday, jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first with four consecutive hits, including two doubles. Winning pitcher Anthony Veneziano struck out eight to improve to 2-0.

Delaware Valley (2-2, 2-2), amazingly, left the bases loaded in the final five innings. Losing pitcher Chris Fiaschetti struck out three and is 0-2. He went 2-for-2 with an RBI at the plate. Junior outfielder Frank McHugh was 2-for-4 and senior Nick Perna was 3-for-5 with an RBI triple.

Elsewhere in the Skyland:

North Hunterdon 4, Hillsborough 2 -- Senior Quentin Klein went 3-for-3 with an RBI and winning pitcher John Wilson, a sophomore, fired a six-hitter for the red-hot Lions (4-2, 3-1), who have won three in a row. Senior outfielder Marc Monks, who homered in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Montgomery, stole a base against the Raiders.

Hunterdon Central 4, Montgomery 3 -- Red Devils (3-1, 3-1) have won two in a row since a 6-1 loss to North Hunterdon in a Delaware Division matchup.

Immaculata 14, Phillipsburg 2 -- Senior third baseman Matt McAnally and senior shortstop David Wodzisz drove in runs for the Stateliners (1-4, 1-3), who were coming off a 10-3 win over Watchung Hills in a Delaware Division clash. McAnally was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Wodzisz was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs against the Warriors.

South Hunterdon 8, Belvidere 6 -- Sophomore Thomas Madeo drove in a pair of runs and sophomore David Woodworth had a double and two RBIs for the County Seaters (1-3, 1-3) in a Valley Division loss. Junior Kevin Merle belted his first home run. Junior pitcher Henry Myerchin struck out nine in a no-decision. Senior Jayck Lopez went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, while sophomore Nick Scamuffa was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Eagles (2-3, 2-3), who snapped a three-game skid.
