Breakdown: Stateliners shooting for their 20th championship -- 11th in Group 4 -- and its first 3-peat since winning five in a row from 1996-00. The '96 championship was in Group 3. Coach Dave Post's team had little trouble in winning the program's 35th sectional title -- a 45-16 blowout of Middletown North on Friday night in what may have been the final match at The Pit. Big question is will we see the return of Paetzell, who has been practicing with the team. If not this weekend, sources say he will be back for District 1. The 'Liners may not need him on Sunday, as they will be heavy favorites in the semifinals. Jackson Memorial is good in spots where P'burg is strong, and the Jags probably only rate as solid favorites at 126 and 170. The 120 and 145 bouts should be good ones, but look for P'burg to pile up bonus points down low and up top. Roxbury vs. Clearview in the other semifinal should be very interesting. Last year, the Gaels dropped a lopsided 59-6 decision to P'burg in the Group 4 semis. Clearview appears to be forfeiting either 220 or 285 and may have to bump to cover 195. Roxbury needs to capitalize down low (Gaels are favored at 106, with 113 and 120 key bouts) and may bump up from 145 to potentially get 152, 160 and 170. Can Clearview capitalize up top where Roxbury in vulnerable? I think Roxbury is just a bit better down low and in spots up top, and solid enough everywhere else to save points.

Prediction: Phillipsburg over Jackson, 45-14, and
Roxbury beats Clearview, 36-31, in the semifinals. (P'burg over Roxbury, 42-17, in the final).

Group 2

Breakdown: Buckle up for what could be a wild ride in Group 2. On paper, the Emerson-Park Ridge vs. Lenape Valley semifinal and a potential Delaware Valley vs. Emerson-Park Ridge final are very close on paper. You have to hand it to Patriots coach Doug Vetter for even getting this far after losing several wrestlers for the season with injuries. And it would be foolish to count the Pats out like I did in their last two matches, because they have good upper weights. Delaware Valley matches up well with Collingswood, which won't be able to take advantage up top and will be at a big disadvantage in the lower and middle weights. The key bouts there are 120, 145 and 285. Lenape Valley needs to find a seventh win and minimize bonus points against EPR as the Pats will be favored at 106, 113, 145, 195, 220 and 285. EPR may forfeit 113 and 220, but Hall could slide up to 285. Falleni could bump to 120, where he'd be an underdog against state qualifier Paco Robles, but could minimize the damage. Cavos are solid through the middle and could win them all from 120-182, except 145 where Nick Palumbo is one of the best in the state. Del Val has won 11 in a row since a 33-27 loss to Hunterdon Central on Jan. 22. A final matchup with EPR could come down to which team wins at 285, or if the Terriers can sneak a win at 145 or 152, where they are not favored.

Prediction: Delaware Valley, 35-19, over Collingswood and Emerson-Park Ridge over Lenape Valley, 36-32, in semis. (Delaware Valley over Emerson-Park Ridge, 29-26, in final).

Group 1

Point Pleasant Beach Garnet Gulls (18-4)

So. Will Jarvis (18-9, D4), 106; Jr. Dominick Waldman (5-13), 113; So. Jude Lovgren (15-10), 120; So. Jared Hoeler (13-13), 126; Jr. Rodman Rupp (18-7, D3)/So. Breakdown: Coach John Gill has led Kittatinny to eight championships, with the lone title in Group 1 coming in 2008. After three straight losses in the Group 1 semifinals -- Hanover Park (31-30) in 2013 and Bound Brook in (34-32) '12 and (49-12) in '14 -- the Sussex County School missed its first sectional final since '99 last season. Gill (532-163-5 in 36 seasons) and Paulsboro's Paul Morina (631-42-4 in 30 seasons) are two of New Jersey's all-time winningest coaches and have combined for 1,163 wins and 37 Group titles. Paulsboro, one of the most stories programs in the nation, is 1,108-88-12 in 73 seasons. Cedar Grove is quite a story having knocked four-time defending champion Bound Brook out of the postseason. It took a head coach with Sussex County ties to do it as former Lenape Valley standout Derrick Goduto, a two-time state placewinner, has the Panthers in the Group 1 hunt for the first time in its history. Kittatinny and Paulsboro should be a dandy final. Cougars are the more balanced team, but both will have chances at bonus points. Kittatinny needs to maximize where it is strong at 132 and 138, and 182. The key bouts are 113 (Nick Duca will likely be there) 126, 145, 152, 160, 170 and 285. I think the team that wins four of those will be the champion.

Prediction: Kittatinny, 39-19, over Point Pleasant Beach and Paulsboro, 37-25, over Cedar Grove in the semifinals. (Kittatinny over Paulsboro, 30-27, in the final).
