Wrestling: NJSIAA sectional semifinal matchups

Semifinal matches will be contested on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Winners advance to Friday's sectional championships at the gym of the higher seed.

All 1 and 2 seeds are still remaining, while six No. 5 seeds and four No. 6 seeds advanced with wins on Monday.

High Point (13-2) was among four No. 1 seeds from the Hunterdon-Warren-Sussex area to advance on Monday -- 60-10 over No. 8 Ramsey in the North 1, Group 2 quarterfinals. The Wildcats, who have won a Sussex County-best 26 sectional titles, are seeking three straight championships for the first time since winning five in a row from 2010-14.

Newton (13-6), the No. 2 seed which rolled to a 68-9 win over No. 7 Pascack Hills, will host No. 3 Jefferson in Wednesday's North 1, Group 2 semifinals at Henry Boresch Memorial Gym. Coach Eric Bollette's Braves, who handed the Falcons a 44-16 loss on Jan. 3, are seeking the program's third sectional title and first since going back-to-back in North 1, Group 1 in 2009-10.

Also in Sussex County, No. 2 Kittatinny cruised to a 58-12 win over No. 7 Cresskill. The Cougars will next face No. 6 North Warren, which scored a 42-31 upset-victory over No. 3 Pompton Lakes in North 1, Group 1. Pope John (Non-Public B), which was idle on Monday, has won eight sectional titles in its history and is seeking its second straight.

Phillipsburg (15-2) and North Hunterdon (19-2) both advanced with ease to the North 2, Group 4 semifinals. The top-seeded Stateliners rolled to a 66-9 win over No. 8 Linden, while the second-seeded Lions were 62-9 winners over No. 7 Middletown South.

Hunterdon Central (20-1), ranked No. 4 in the New Jersey Writers Top 20 Poll and the top seed in Central Jersey, Group 5, moved into the semifinals with a 66-12 thumping of New Brunswick.

Voorhees seeks the program's 18th sectional title.
In the lone all-local matchup, No. 5 Voorhees scored a 32-25 win over No. 4 Warren Hills in the North 2, Group 3 quarters, avenging a 37-19 loss to the Blue Streaks, who won 10 bouts in that matchup on Dec. 19.

Delaware Valley, a No. 1 seed, advanced with an 81-0 win over No. 8 Secaucus in North 2, Group 1, while No. 7 Belvidere dropped a 52-21 decision to No. 2 Whippany Park in the bottom half of the draw. Senior Quinn Melofchik (24-1) became the County Seaters' all-time wins leader with his 132nd victory in his team's loss.
