Wrestling: New Jersey Writers Association Top 20

Five teams from the Hunterdon-Warren Sussex area, including three ranked in the Top 10, are among the notables in the third week of the New Jersey Wrestling Writers Association Top 20 poll.

Phillipsburg (8-1) remains in the No. 5 spot after a 34-33 win over No. 9 Hanover Park on Thursday, while Pope John (11-1) again jumps up three spots to No. 6. The Lions were at No. 12 and No. 9 the previous two weeks.

The Stateliners will visit No. 19 Southern on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Hunterdon Central (11-2), which finished three points behind Pope John in the Hunterdon-Warren-Sussex Tournament on Jan. 14, sits in the No. 7 spot.

Delaware Valley (12-2) stays at No. 10, and the Terriers will travel to No. 14 Bound Brook for a Skyland Conference Raritan Division matchup on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

High Point (10-2) rounds out the local teams at No. 17 following a 33-31 loss to No. 13 Delsea on Saturday. The Wildcats will face No. 3 Cranford on Saturday as part of a quad, which also includes unranked Paramus, at Warren Hills.

Bergen Catholic (7-3) remains the unanimous No. 1 team for the third straight week.

The Crusaders, who collected all 13 first-place votes and have been ranked No. 1 in the poll every week since the 2013-14 season, went 2-2 at the Who's No. 1 Duals on Saturday in Easton, Pa., beating St. Augustine Prep (51-21) and Mount St. Joseph (Md.) (47-18), while losing to Blair Academy (46-9) and Malvern Prep (Pa.) (38-18).
