The semifinals will be contested on Wednesday, Feb. 6, and the sectional finals on Friday, Feb. 8. The four public school champions advance to the Group championships on Sunday, Feb. 10 at Toms River North High School.
Teams must wrestle wrestle a minimum of 10 dual meets against NJSIAA member schools (70 percent rule also applies) by the cutoff date on Saturday. Any unbeaten or untied team with criteria will be included.
High Point (7-1), the defending Group 2 champion which has won a Sussex County-best 26 sectional titles, is the top-ranked team in North 1, Group 2, while Newton, which is seeking its third sectional title and first since winning back-to-back championships in North 1, Group 1 in 2009-10, is No. 3, though the Braves, who will take on the 'Cats on Tuesday for the NJAC Freedom Division title, do own a 44-16 win over No. 2 Jefferson and would jump over the Falcons if the final set of points stands as is.
Phillipsburg (10-0) is tied atop North 2, Group 4 with North Hunterdon (10-2), though the Stateliners are technically the No. 1 team by virtue of a 30-24 win over the Lions on Wednesday night. Coach Dave Post's team seeks the program's 38th sectional title and a sixth consecutive Group 4 championship.Hunterdon Central (13-0) is the top-ranked team in Central Jersey, Group 5, while Pope John, which won its first sectional title since 1994 last season, is No. 1 in Non-Public North B.
Also keep an eye on North 2, Group 3, where Voorhees and Warren Hills are the Nos. 4 and 5 teams in that section. The Blue Streaks handed the Vikes a 37-19 loss on Dec. 19, and they would host the rematch by virtue of that victory.
In all, 14 of the 18 teams from the Hunterdon-Warren-Sussex area are ranked in the top eight in their respective sections.
