All 1, 2 and 3 seeds are still remaining, while four No. 5 seeds and one No. 6 seed advanced with wins on Monday. This year, the field was expanded to eight teams in each section. The No. 8 seeds lost by an average of 46 points, and the No. 7s fell by a margin of 36 points. The most lopsided result was Delsea's 69-0 win over Pemberton in South Jersey, Group 3, while the closest score involving a 1 vs. 8 or a 2 vs. 7 was Jackson Memorial's 43-30 victory over Allentown in Central Jersey, Group 4.
Of the 42 matches involving 1 vs. 8 and 2 vs. 7, only six were decided by fewer than 20 points.
High Point (14-5) was one of six No. 1 seeds from the Hunterdon-Warren-Sussex area to advance on Monday -- 52-18 over No. 8 Ramsey. The Wildcats, who have won a Sussex County-best 24 sectional titles, are seeking their first championship since 2014.
Kittatinny (16-4), which scored a 36-25 win over High Point on Friday, is looking for its 21st sectional title after advancing in North 1, Group 1 with a 70-9 win over No. 8 Boonton.
"Hopefully, we can ride this horse for a little while," said Cougars coach John Gill, whose teams have missed making the trip to groups only three times (2009, '10 and '15) since 2000.
Also in Sussex County, Sparta (North 1, Group 3) is looking for its third sectional title and first since 2000, while Pope John (Non-Public A) has won seven in its history, but none since 1994.
On Tuesday, Southern (14-3), the No. 2 seed in South Jersey, Group 5, was removed from the tournament due to a "procedural error" involving weight certifications conducted before the start of the season. The Rams, who claimed the Group 5 title last season, advanced with a 48-9 win over Rancocas Valley on Monday night.
