Breakdown: Good early-season tilt between consensus top 10s in New Jersey. Green Wave are making their first appearance in The Pit, so that usually favors the 'Liners. Many teams have failed in their first appearance (the last two to win in a Pit debut were St. Peter's Prep, 26-25, in 2011 and Toms River North, 35-33 in 2004). In addition, Delbarton appears to be at less than full strength as Johnson's return at 160 is questionable. Stoll's squad forfeited 160 and 195 in its only dual against Mendham -- a 43-21 win on Dec. 19, 2012. P'burg is still without Region 1 runner-up Anthony Johnson (discipline, 132) and starter Joe Maso (hand injury, 182) -- both are expected back in the coming weeks. Delbarton will do some shifting in the lower weights -- looking to get Farro on Friedman at 120 and Innarella (seventh at the Beast this year and sixth in the state at 113 last season) at 126 against Zinsmeister. Look for the Wave to seek Davis-Petchonka and Anderson-Elling at 132 and 138, respectively. Figuring the teams split the first four and Anderson (seventh in the state at 126 last year) is the favorite at 132, it's hard to find other matchups where the visitors will be decided favorites other than 182. P'burg will have the edge at 106, 113, 138 (if Vasquez-Elling), 152 and 160 (if Johnson is out), plus 195 and 285. I'd say 145, 170 and 220 are tossups. Can Delbarton get some big wins in the upper weights? That's the question and you have to in order to beat a well-balanced P'burg squad.
Prediction: Phillipsburg, 32-22.
